Hunt's Photo's New Website
Hunt's Photo has recently updated their website and you can sure spend some time there. Besides the products they have for sale and their specials, they have a wealth of information. Their "Product News" is a month by month listing of news items going back to the beginning of 2003. "New Products" is a great place to keep up with, well, new products. And there are a number of Photographer's portfolios with wonderful images. Grab a glass of your favorite liquid refreshment, click here and enjoy. (If click here doesn't work, go to http://www.huntsphotoandvideo.com) While you're there don't forget to check out their specials.
Lightroom News
As you have figured out by now, we really do like Lightroom. Tom likes it because he can figure it out, I like it because he can figure it out and he's finally working on the computer (he thinks computers are evil). Now he's tweaking his images the way he wants them tweaked in a permanent fashion rather than on the Kiosks at the 1 hour labs. It's a little buggy, but what software isn't these days. For example, Lightroom 2 was quickly replaced by Lightroom 2.1.
One of the complaints I've heard about Lightroom is that while it's a snap to create a slideshow in Lightroom, there is no easy way to export it to show as a DVD. Photodex to the rescue. There is now a free plug in to allow you to export your Lightroom slideshow to ProShow Gold or Producer. Then you can use it as is or further enhance the slideshow in those products. More info at http://www.photodex.com/products/lrplugin/
And thanks to our friend David for passing on the following little tidbit:
If you don't have wow presets, they are excellent. You can
download Download presets from this link: Note: this is also a good learning tool. If you see a preset you like, you can go in and see what settings were used to create that effect.
Sigma 120-400mm Lens
We recently purchased the image stabilized 120-400mm Sigma Lens for our Canon equipment. We have had excellent results with it. It is very sharp, reasonably built and a great alternative to the camera manufacturer's version if you are looking for a less expensive choice.
Three Educational Opportunities in January
January is promising to be a huge month for photography in our neck of the woods.
We are looking forward to returning to Pigeon Forge as presenters at Wilderness Wildlife Week. It is a week chock full of free programs about all sorts of aspects of nature and also many photo seminars. And the price is right—totally free since all the presenters volunteer their time. Many people come and take advantage of the lower hotel rates at this time of year and the close proximity to the Smokies. The schedule of classes and information about the presenters is on the Pigeon Forge website, mypigeonforge.com. Look for us with Harold Stinnette and Kendall Chiles on Saturday morning, Jan 10 for a 4 hour program on nature photography. Then on Jan 11, Sunday morning, Tom and I will be presenting "Gently Touch the Earth", a program based on a book of our images with some of our favorite quotes about peace, harmony and beauty in our world. (This book will be available for purchase on Blurb in the near future—hopefully within the next couple of weeks. Just in time for you know what.) We will announce it on our website when it is available.)
We are also excited to be offering our first all day workshop at the Tennessee Aquarium. This workshop will be on Saturday January 24 and will consist of alternating sessions of instruction and time to photograph in the aquarium. Our first photography session will be prior to the opening time for the aquarium. We will also be providing lunch from Sticky Fingers. With a small group size, there will be plenty of time to answer all your questions and for hands-on help. Registration will be available soon through the Tennessee Aquarium website tnaqua.org. More information is available on our website.
The final event of interest to those who live near our area is the January 31George Lepp Seminar, "Fulfilling the Promise of Digital" being presented jointly by the Photographic Society of Chattanooga and Canon. Details of this workshop can be found on the PSC website.
