 Total Lunar Eclipse in February

In February, many of us in the US will be treated to a total lunar eclipse, the last until Dec 2010. If you Google Lunar Eclipse Photography you will find a number of websites that have pictures that people have taken and that give instructions for how to photograph an eclipse. Most of these talk about using film but digital photography works well too. The advantage to film of course is that you can make multiple exposures while with digital you would be doing this in post processing. We recommend using a long lens because the moon is a lot smaller that it can appear to the naked eye. Use ISO 800-1600 with the lens wide open, and use manual focus. You will have less noise on a cold night but be sure to have plenty of batteries since the cold air can sap battery power. Some websites you may find to be helpful are  http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/eclipses/12886312.html

Hope for clear skies and even if you don't choose to photograph the event, bundle up and go outside. You don't see a total eclipse every day or should I say night.

Travel Websites

We have not tried this one, but those of you who like to have travel insurance my find it handy.  InsureMyTrip.com compares various travel insurance policies.  We have mentioned Kayak.com before and we have set up our profile in Kayak.com to send us weekly alerts on changes of air fares.  You simply set up the itineraries you are interested in and you get an email each week telling you the best fares for them. You don't get notified about those 'special offer' fares that are usually gone within minutes but you do see when the fares change.
