Hello!

What a strange winter. But when it decided to get cold, it sure made up for the warm fall.  It will be interesting to see what the wildflowers decide to do this spring. The warm spell this past week has brought out our forsythia at least a month early.  We'll be headed 'down under' to Australia and New Zealand in a couple of weeks and it's always interesting to go from winter to early fall and then, when we return, to early spring here within a period of 3 weeks.

In this newsletter we will list several links to websites we found interesting and that we hope will be useful to you.

Our Wales trip is definitely a go and we have been able to extend the registration deadline just a bit longer. The gardens in May are magnificent.  Our workshops for 2007 are filling so if you are interested in joining us, please let us know.  The schedules for 2007 and 2008 are listed below.

We have been working on the 7th edition of Notes from the Field.  While still focusing on photographic technique, it will also include more information about digital photography. We hope to have it available by late April.

Have fun with your spring photography and we hope to see you this year.

Best,

Tom and Pat

Orchid Daze with Frabel: Glass Impressions

If you like orchids and beautiful glass, then this exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Garden from Jan 27-April 1 isn't to be missed. The Gardens has the largest public collection of orchids in the US. The orchids and glass are beautifully arranged and it's hard to tell some of the glass orchids made by the Frabel glassmakers from the real thing. We have been there twice already. Orchids make wonderful subjects to practice Georgia O'Keeffe type compositions. Remember to over expose light colored orchids slightly. For more information check out the website: http://www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org/site/involvement/orchid_daze

How to Keep Frequent Flier Miles from Expiring

By now you have probably heard that most airlines are changing their policy about frequent flier miles so that they expire in a much shorter time if the account isn't 'active'.

Budget Travel magazine has listed several different ideas on how to inexpensively keep them active.  The info is here: http://www.budgettravelonline.com/bt-dyn/content/article/2007/02/12/AR2007021200702.html

 New Passport Requirements

Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)

The proposed implementation timeline has two phases:

·          Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries.

You might check this website periodically for any changes in policy. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html
