Where to Find Instruction Manuals

Have you purchased a used camera with no instruction manual, or misplaced one that you had?  One of our clients used this website to get the manual for the used camera that he just bought and had it within just a few days.  Thanks for the info, Jim

Back Issues of our Newsletter on our Website

Per request, we are beginning to keep back copies of our newsletters on our website.  For now, we're simply not deleting the previous newsletters when we add the new one but we have plans (along with plans for about 50 other things—perhaps fantasies is a better term) to add other back issues to it.

New Website for Strabo Tours

As you know, many of our trips are handled by Strabo Tours.  Their website has just been revamped and each leader now has their own page with links to itineraries of upcoming tours.  This website is a great resource if you'd like to see the details of our itineraries.  The previous website was a bit slow in displaying the itineraries but this one is fast even with dial up access. The website is http://www.phototc.com or http://www.strabotours.com.

Tips for Beating Jet Lag

There seems to be a number of theories of how to beat jet lag.  Here is one that we came across recently.

Some Comments about Credit Cards

Trying to decide whether to take a Credit Card or a Debit Card on your next trip? There are several advantages that Credit Cards have over other methods of payment.  Of course, you will want to do a little checking to make sure that the places you are going to visit do accept credit cards.

- To find out more about your credit card's specific benefits, read the card's terms and conditions or call the toll-free number customer service number.

- When used to rent a car, many credit cards provide free collision and theft insurance. This benefit provides secondary coverage to an existing car insurance policy.  However, it does not cover injuries or damage to someone else's vehicle.  This benefit could save about $20 a day compared to paying the rental car company for the same coverage. Some countries, especially where you drive on the left side of the road may be excluded.

- When buying plane, bus or rail tickets using a credit card, you may receive a free common carrier travel accident insurance plan of up to $1 million.  This insurance usually covers not only the cardholder, but a spouse, and eligible dependent children for sickness or injuries while traveling.

- Credit card companies may offer a variety of assistance programs both in the U.S. and while abroad.  These programs provide help with medical and legal referrals, lost luggage, emergency transportation, emergency cash replacement, and passport and translation services.

- Many credit card companies provide tow trucks or vehicle assistance for flat tires or other car trouble.  Fees for many services are usually pre-negotiated by the credit card company and lower than standard rates.

- Some credit cards offer programs that repair or replace merchandise purchased on a credit card if it is defective, stolen or destroyed.

- Your credit card company may offer extra protection for products beyond the initial warranty period granted by the manufacturer or the store where you purchased an item.

- When making a purchase in foreign currency, you typically receive the exchange rate at time of the purchase.  Most credit cards will tack on a surcharge although I understand that some cards issued through Capital One do not add on the surcharge.

How to Reduce those Credit Card Applications that Come in the Mail

By the way, tired of all those pre-approved credit card applications that flood your mail box? You can remove your name for credit info for prescreened credit cards from Equifax and a couple of other companies by calling 888-567-8688.  I figure I've saved at least one tree since I signed up.
